Did you all know that St. John’s, Newfoundland is at the same latitude at Paris? We can’t take our trailer to Paris, though, so…Newfoundland? You’re finally up! Knock wood.
We’ve been attempting to make it to Newfoundland for forever it seems, but something or other has always come along and forced us to put it off another year. But this year? Well, we’ll see, because I don’t take plans for granted anymore, but I will say that we have actual reservations for more than one Newfoundland campground already, so. Fingers crossed!
As usual, kid activities have interfered with our planning to a certain extent. Gus has a trip to NYC with his youth wind symphony to play at Carnegie Hall, which, while very cool, cuts into my Newfoundland time! But means we all get to spend a few days in NYC, which is always fun. We have Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City booked, and our current plan is to race up there very quickly after all our obligations here are finished and have four nights there before also quickly racing over to Newfoundland over the next few days.
And then we’ll spend about five weeks checking out Newfoundland before starting the long trek back. Which we’re still deciding how to break up; we’re hoping to see some extended family in New England and fit in a couple of college visits for Gus, who’ll be a senior next year (!). We also, at this point, have no idea who will actually be coming on this trip. Ari is graduating from college in May (! again) and doesn’t yet know what he’ll be doing immediately after, so there’s a chance he’ll be with us for some or all of the trip. And Milo really wants to see Newfoundland, but is also applying for some summer music programs, so his plans are up in the air as well.
That didn’t take long to talk about, because Newfoundland is pretty much it! I mean, Newfoundland is really big, and I could get into specific stops we’ll be making, but basically we’re going to see as much of it as we can.
Non-summer travel is, as usual these days, sketchy owing to kid schedules. We’re trying to figure out spring break because the college where Gus does dual enrollment has a different spring break from Dave’s school. But we may fit in a quick trip to DC or something like that. We have Tybee Island booked for Thanksgiving with Dave’s parents, and we’re looking forward to that. And then Jekyll Island booked for the week between Christmas and New Year’s, because I need to fit a trip to Jekyll in at least every couple of years. Beyond that…we’ll see!
So there’s a very quick outline of this year’s plans; this might be the shortest post I’ve ever written!
